Description

Used to retrieve the value of the hardware-based performance counter. This function is sometimes using to gather timing information as part of an anti-debugging technique. It is often added by the compiler and is included in many executables, so simply seeing it as an imported function provides little information.

Syntax

BOOL WINAPI QueryPerformanceCounter(
  _Out_ LARGE_INTEGER *lpPerformanceCount
);

Parameters

lpPerformanceCount [out]
A pointer to a variable that receives the current performance-counter value, in counts.

Return value

If the function succeeds, the return value is nonzero.

If the function fails, the return value is zero. To get extended error information, call GetLastError. On systems that run Windows XP or later, the function will always succeed and will thus never return zero.
