Antenna

Polarization

Linear/circular

Polarization Pros/Cons
Linear antenna polarization (LP)
  • [+] Better range
  • [-] Antennas (RX/TX) should be aligned on the same direction
  • [-] 90° angle between RX and TX antenna is the worse case scenario

Circular antenna polarization (CP)

  • Left Hand Circular Polarized (LHCP)
  • Right Hand Circular Polarized (RHCP)
  • [+] Preferred for FPV
  • [-] Less range
Warning
For circular polarized antenna, be sure to take the same type between RX and TX (RHCP or LHCP for both)

Directional/omnidirectional

Polarization Pros/Cons
Directional
  • [+] better range
  • [-] less coverage
  • [-] RX antenna needs to be pointed to TX antenna
Omnidirectional
  • [+] better coverage
  • [+] No need for RX antenna to be pointed to TX antenna
  • [-] less range
Note
Because both types of antenna provide pros and cons, it's popular to see FPV equipments like goggles that support both antennas. They are called diversity receivers and switch on the antenna that provides the best reception.
